Shelves are great; every home and office needs them, and without the wonderful properties of shelves, I would not be here writing on this blog for you today. But alas, shelves cannot carry the entire burden when it comes to neat, organized and efficient home storage. Sometimes all a shelf really needs to meet its maximum potential is an assistant to pull some storage weight.

Metal Magazine Files
One great way to quickly and easily organize the shelves in your home or office is by using magazine files to sort paperwork in a neat and vertical fashion. The metal magazine file is the perfect example of using additional accessories to really put the finishing touch on your shelf organization.
This modern metal shelf organizer has an attractive, eye-catching contemporary design. The shelf features a pattern of circular punch outs in its sturdy metal frame, which add visual interest while promoting the ability to find what you are looking for. I like to put my old copies of The Economist inside the files (I purchased quite a few of these files, they are so useful!) so I have a veritable library of world events, all within reach on my shelves.
Of course, this magazine file is not only useful when paired with a shelf. This storage organizer can also be used on a desktop. It makes an excellent “inbox / outbox” and allows for a more organized, clutter free desk space.
One more trick for the true “handy-persons” out there on the interwebs: Try hanging these files directly onto the wall.
1.) Evenly place two screws into the wall, separated by a few inches. Be sure to leave enough clearance for the metal panels
2.) Place each screw within the circular cut outs, and slide the file down onto the screws. The metal panels should fit snugly between the screw head and the wall.
3.) Tighten the screws into place; if desired, place two screws at the base of the file
4.) There you have it, a wall mounted magazine file!

I live in a tiny little bungalow in the heart of the city, and that obviously provides me with very little garage space when I need to get to my handy work. Our garage is miniscule to say the least, with just barely enough room to fit our single car in, plus a little bit of extra room for working on home projects. I am a dedicated “do it yourself-er”, so I really wanted to find a way to be able to do some tinkering in my garage. After all, is that not what drives a man to buy a house in the first place? The ability to tinker to his heart’s content?

Aluminum Wall Mounted Folding Shelves
The solution to my desire for tinkering was right in front of my eyes the entire time, right there on my computer screen. Stacks and Stacks had what I consider to be the ultimate in space saving work shelving: the aluminum wall-mounted folding shelf. The shelf is super lightweight because of its aluminum construction, weighing in at a meager five pounds. On the flip side, it is able to hold an astonishing 75 pounds of weight! The surface area of the shelf when folded out is approximately 45.5″W x 20.25″D. Now I have enough space to fix remote controls, garbage disposals, and more, plus I have room to get started on my birdhouse building hobby that I have always wanted to get off the ground!
When I am done using this metal wall shelf, I simply fold it down. This unique folding ability allows for enough space to get into my car and pull it out of the garage. When folded down the shelf only sticks out about five inches, leaving plenty of room to move around in the garage. You can find this shelf and others like it over at StacksandStacks.com.

Adjustable Bathtub Shelf
Sharing the bath tub area with your significant other can make things pretty crowded. Throw in a couple of kids and you have an outright land war between the Head and Shoulders, Aveeno Shaving Cream and the Johnson and Johnson Baby Shampoo. Bathtubs are only built to store a finite amount of bottles, and our tub was reaching critical mass. Luckily for me, my family and our bath tub, there was a simple, easy answer to my storage woes.
With its versatile design and excellent storage capabilities, the adjustable bathtub shelf ended up being the perfect way to store all of the different soap and shampoo bottles my family uses, without needing to make major renovations on the bathroom! This bathroom shelf can be stretched out wide to span the width of the bathtub, providing a “bridge” of sorts to store your soap, shampoo, loofas and razors while you shower or bathe. This adjustable metal shelf will fit into any bathtub with a width from 20″ x 25.5” (which is just about every bathtub in the world, save for you spoiled “Jacuzzi tub” owners, who probably don’t need the extra bathroom storage anyways!) by stretching from the rim on one side to the rim on the other.
The shelf is made from a really sturdy metal and has a rubberized coating, which is what allows it to “stick” to the tub so well. At first I was worried it would just slide right off the side of my tub, but the rubberized coating has just the perfect amount of “stickiness” to keep it situated on the tub. At 5” wide, it is just wide enough for all of my shampoo bottles. (Although Costco sized bottles are probably too heavy to be supported, so stick to non-jumbo bottles.) I found this unique bathroom storage accessory at StacksandStacks.com.

4 foot floating wood wall shelf
Last weekend I took the family out to get some portraits taken. We drove all the way out to the scenic and beautiful Fargo, ND to capture my family’s love for the snow and cold weather. The photo shoot was a smashing success, and we came away with loads of great pictures to share with our friends, and of course, display prominently in our home.
A few days passed and all the while I pondered just where I would want to show off our new portraits. The living room was an obvious first choice, as it was the place our guests were most likely to encounter our gorgeous depictions. Well it turns out I was in luck, because while I was perusing my favorite online store, Stacks and Stacks, I came across the perfect solution.
The 4 foot floating wood wall shelf is the perfect display shelf for my fabulous Fargo family portraits. This sturdy floating shelf is able to support all of the family portraits (including the one in which I received a snowball to the face) and is completely seamless! The shelves not only display the professional images of my family, but add some modern style to my living room as well!
I was worried that I would have a hard time installing a floating shelf into my home, but it turns out that it is a breeze to install this shelf! All I needed was a Phillips head screwdriver to complete the install. I simply screwed in the mounting brackets and then just slid the shelf right into place!
The shelf can hold up to 30 pounds of weight, and at four feet across, has plenty of room to show off my amazing family frolicking in the snowy paradise that is Fargo. As I said before you can find the floating wall shelf and a whole bunch more like it at StacksandStacks.com

Here’s a great tip for keeping your bathroom clean and tidy, as well as looking terrific! Think about adding an etagere!
They come in all shapes and sizes. Some are made of wood, some plastic, some are even made of metal. But my favorite, and in my personal opinion, the best looking one, has got to be the one that is built out of glass and metal.

Ellipse 4 Tier Shelf
I purchased the ellipse 4 tier glass shelf and transformed my plain jane bathroom onto a deluxe, fancy bathroom that reminds me of staying in a hotel. It looks great holding towels and soap. And it looks great as well when you put towels in it.
What is also pretty terrific about having an etagere in the bathroom is the easy way you can just grab what you need and it is right there. You don’t need to go into a drawer or closet to find what you are looking for. It is all literally right there.
There are also easy to clean, and that is a nice benefit, because all that glass seems like it would be difficult to keep looking its best, but no, in fact it is extremely easy to clean.
My wife really likes the way the silver frame looks. It is a little bit futuristic to me, but she says it looks European. Our guests comment on it as well, saying things like they like it, and where did we get it. It’s nice to have fancy things that people like, and people seem to really like our etagere.
So that is my tip: if you want to make your bathroom just great looking, and also really easy to clean and organize, make sure you get an etagere. I found a great one I love at Stacks and Stacks.
You can too.

Here’s a fun suggestion for everyone today, a fun new way to display! Have you ever considered wall shelves to show off your collection of bean pals, Smurfs, or antique bottles? Whatever your collection is, I have a perfect way to show them off!
As for me, I love ceramic miniatures. I collect them at swap meets, estate sales, and even ebay. You can be sure I’ve amassed a million wonderful hand-crafted ceramic miniature pieces. Ducks, cars, sheep, everything you can imagine! I even have an Eiffel Tower!
Well, I already have a well-stocked and meticulously lit display cabinet for my treasures, but I thought “wouldn’t it be neat to display them all over the house?”, if that was at all possible. It turns out, with the assistance of some terrific glass clip shelves, I could display my collection in every room of the house! The kitchen, bedrooms, atrium, great room, and even the hallways!

Glass Clip Shelves
The glass clip shelves were a godsend, honestly. They are so durable and easy to install. I could do it myself, and I’m really not good at building things. Once they’re up on your walls, you’ll be amazed. They look so good, with frosted chrome connectors and crisp, clear glass. Well, I wasted no time, carefully placed my favorite ceramic miniature pieces atop those glass shelves, and viola: my collection is on view in every room.
These shelves don’t need to be used just for display, now that I think about it. They can be used for picture frames, flowers, even bath towels! Really, I guess only the limits of your imagination can limit the uses for these great glass wall shelves.
I purchased terrific glass wall shelves at Stacks and Stacks, placed my favorite collection proudly upon them, and improved the look of my home.
You can too.

Modern art is mind blowing. It’s not only art, but it is indeed modern. Not only modern, because it was made recently, in modern times, but because it is modern in its thought and thinking and execution. Modern. Shelves Blog is modern, modern in the sense that there weren’t blogs around in the days of Picassa and Remebrante and Van Ghoe. Those fellows had to promote their art without the ease and simplicity of the internet. Suckers. Modern art, while sometimes bizarre and creepy, is also space-age and, in a word, modern. Modern! You have to take the good with the bad, just as in life: for every masterpiece like the one pictured above, you have to deal with a kooky wacko like Warhall. But it’s okay, because sometimes, when great ideas like modern art combine with the glorious simplicity of the shelf, something happens that is nothing short of magic. Magic! I was surfing the site called Stacks and Stacks, looking specifically for modern works of art in their shelves sections, and just look at what I found. In one word: perfection. In four words: Suchow Reversible Display Shelf. Don’t let you eyes fool you, this shelf is real, and is modern, and looks like this amazing modern art painting. Amazing.

The great charm of this unbelievably versatile Suchow display shelf is many. Many. It’s unique because it can be viewed from both sides, thus serving as a room divider as well! Imagine! Furniture placement can be so limited due to unsightly furniture backing; however, with this display rack you can admire collectibles from both sides! Modern! This display unit also makes a lovely baker’s rack or bookshelf. Lovely! Modern! Practical storage of items such as books and dishes can be stored; or decorative vases and sculptures can be placed on the shelves for admiration of both sides. That’s terrific! The rack is constructed of solid Chinese Basswood, with a black lacquer finish and two drawers the open on either side. The irregularity, or, dare I say MODERN design of the display shelves completes the piece’s modern theme! And how. And so on.

“Science”. Woo. Big deal. So today, a bunch of smart guys found out that the bits that build up our Human DNA aren’t the only building blocks God plays with in the universe to make Life. Big deal. Can you bolt that information to the wall and place picture frames, plants, or even the very books these geeks must have read to become scientists? I don’t think so. So what do I think about, instead of thinking about where existence began, who created it, why it’s here, were do we go when we die? Often I’ll find myself looking at blank wall, staring actually, for hours on end, wondering how I can improve on it. To improve on it without overdoing it, mind you, without killing what makes a wall attractive in the first place. As I was staring at my living room wall this afternoon, it struck me that the wall needs something special, something special in the form of a boat. Then it struck me, as a matter of fact, that a BOAT SHELF would be a perfectly incredible addition to an already perfect wall. Then it struck me that I could find the perfect boat shelf if I just logged on to Stacks And Stacks and looked for boat shelves. And about a trillion times faster than it took the scientists to find new life in the universe, I found boat shelves.

These adorable boat-styled wrought iron shelves bring rustic cabin appeal with style and sophistication to your home! The boat-shaped wall mounted shelves are made from 100% wrought iron, with a neutral finish to complement any home’s decor. Each wall shelf has three tiers for displaying small collectibles and figurines. Alternatively, the decorative wall shelves make a statement when used without any adornment! Hardware for hanging the shelves is included on the back of each; simply measure and screw or nail them to the wall. Just don’t take them to Mono Lake, California, where the scientists discovered the new life form. They don’t deserve shelves this cool.

Walls! So boring! It’s the age-old dilemma — so many friends and neighbors have asked me exactly how to find the best type of wall shelf. Well, if we are going to take into account floating wall shelves as a category in our quest, or wooden wall shelves as well, then the solution is simple — surprise, it’s just that: a floating wall shelf. It’s an inevitability that soon or later all home improvement fans must grapple with: there’s no better way to add functionality to your walls (without the use of a classic “bookcase”) than the wall shelf. The floating wall shelf. There’s no way around a wall shelf if you’re looking for the finest in wall shelves. Some “experts” believe plastic or space-age polymer shelves are the way to go, for strength and style. I disagree, though I value the “expert” opinion. Wall shelves, specifically floating wall shelves, should be wood. Constructed of wood.

Not entirely unlike the look of this Floating Wall Shelf from StacksAndStacks.com. The look of custom shelving with those in-demand Architectural Elements built right in. And built of wood. It would be stating the obvious to say that these wall shelves add character and elegance to your home or office, but I’ll spell it out, because “experts” disagrees with my premise. The uses you’ll find for a 36″ shelf are legion; the versatility is unlimited — no — limited only by the limits of your imagination. Book, vases, everything, anything. I implore you to consider the Floating Wall Shelf in your hunt for the finest Wall Shelf. By all means, do your own research, but consider it nonetheless. You’ll be glad you did. And so on.
