Shelf: The Final Frontier

Sometimes, you need to call into question the fine art of naming objects. The ones that are locked in, like Banana, or River, or Tree, we can do nothing about. These items were named millions of years ago. But what about more modern names? Like when a company decides to name a superior, dynamic and contemporary shelf something that just doesn’t fit? Look at this incredible Floating Glass Wall Shelf I found at Stacks and Stacks. What comes to mind when you look at it?

Take a close look. Look carefully at its fine tempered glass; its elegant silver painted metal clips; its smooth pedestal platform. What springs to mind? If you said “peach”, you’d be crazy. As crazy as the creators of this impeccable, amazing glass floating wall shelf. BECAUSE THAT’S WHAT THEY NAMED IT. They somehow think this stylish beauty in some way resembles a peach. Poor job, fellas. Very poor. To be fair, I’m not too excited by my creators naming me Richard Parker, but I don’t look like a peach, either.

Stacks and Stacks wisely chose NOT to call this masterpiece a “peach”. They correctly label it a Floating Wall Shelf with Double Clip Support. Seems to fit a little better, eh? No question. And let’s not forget that this floating wall shelf features glass that is .31″ thick. Temper the fact that it was named “peach” with the fact that it features .31″ tempered glass. Alright, I know you’ve been thinking it. And I’m with you. Let’s come right out and mention the obvious — this Floating Glass Wall Shelf looks nothing like a peach. It looks like the U.S.S. Enterprise.  And so on.

Clean Up your Act. Start in the Laundry Room. Add Shelves.

Oftentimes people will come up to me, desperate people, they’ll come up to me on the street and beg to know the secret of keeping a clean laundry room. It happens so often that I’m seriously thinking about printing up little cards with the answer, to hand out instead of taking time away from my delicious meals, grocery shopping, bird watching. The answer couldn’t be more simple: get everything up off the floor. You would think that common sense would kick in for the average joe trying to clean a laundry room, but if the average joe had common sense, then there wouldn’t be a need for Shelves Blog Dot Com. Get everything up off the floor, and organize the items according to what you use the most versus what you use the least. Meaning the soap and laundry items you use frequently, put those items where you can reach them in a hurry. Items like Cat Urine Remover, items that you might use less often, put higher up. Simple. Easy. Organized.

To really get to the bottom of your Laundry Room’s optimal organization state, you should really look into purchasing this delightful Laundry Shelf System from the website called Stacks and Stacks. It comes complete. That’s actually is an understatement. IT COMES COMPLETELY COMPLETE. How complete? Prepare yourself. The Laundry Shelf System includes: 3 White Plastic Panels (each 21″H x 24″W), 2 Large Two-Tiered Shelves, 1 Paper Towel Holder/Shelf, 1 Basket with Clips, 1 Large Parts Bin, 2 Large Hooks, and 4 Small Hooks. That’s as “one-stop shopping” as you’re going to find. The average joe may want his laundry detergent to be included in the “complete” package as well, but that’s crazy. As crazy as asking me about the secrets to laundry room organization while I’m eating.

Shelves Need Support. Metal is there to Help.

Often I’ll find myself looking at blank wall, staring actually, for hours on end, wondering how I can improve on it. To improve on it without overdoing it, mind you, without killing what makes a bare wall attractive in the first place. As I was staring at my living room wall this afternoon, it struck me that the wall needs support, in the form of a glass shelf. Then it struck me that as a matter of fact, the GLASS SHELF would need support in the form of metal hangers, to remain a hanging shelf. Then it struck me that I need support in the form of psychiatric counseling. But first things first, I need to find a glass shelf to fit this wall.

Perfect. After looking at shelves designed for garages, some for laundry rooms, some for kitchens, and some for the closet, I found the perfect wall shelf at Stacks and Stacks. It’s called the Glass Shelf with Metal Support, and it’s going to really add some dynamic flair to the blank wall. And functionality. This Glass Shelf is available with a Brushed Nickel or Oil Rubbed Bronze Finish, but I wouldn’t be doing my job if I neglected to point you in the direction of the Brushed Nickel version; Oil Rubbed Bronze is not well-suited for wall hangings. The Glass Shelf may slip. So be careful, home improvers, and enjoy this Glass Shelf, and your new non-bare wall.

Post-Holiday Reflections lead to a Great New Shelf Solution

This Kensington Hook Shelf from the folks over at STACKS AND STACKS is a terrific way to not only add a bit of classic architectural design to your wall, but add must-have functionality: coat hooks. Four hooks to be exact, which turned out to be exactly what I needed. Does your home feature shelves with hooks for jackets, scarves, etc? Mine didn’t, and that became a problem. In fact, I wouldn’t have stumbled onto this terrific Hook Shelf if not for the past week’s Holiday Guests. Namely my sister and her family.

I live alone here in my large Billings, Montana home. I rarely have guests, and when I do, they usually aren’t staying over long enough to require the use of a coat rack. I never considered that the lone hook in my mud room (immediately adjacent to the kitchen nook) wouldn’t be sufficient for any future coat hanging needs. I was wrong. Enter my sister Jennifer, her husband Marty, and their two children, Marlene and Marty Jr. I realized very quickly that with this harsh winter, the amount of coat rack space I had available was woefully insufficient. With every soaking wet day-glo HyVent ClimateBlock Triclimate Nylon layer that was peeled from these rambunctious children, I knew I was in for it. As were my kitchen chairs, barstools, and any other surface that could bear the burden of a hanging coat. So be it.

Thankfully I spotted the Kensington Hook Shelf at STACKS. With it’s easy-to-install, invisible mounting system, I was back in business in no time. The added bonus of elegant crown molding, a well-placed front lip that keeps my top shelf items safe, and decor-accommodating white finish were just that: bonuses. This is great shelf, and for me, one that saved the holidays. Or at least lowered my level of stress significantly. And that? Another bonus. Thanks, Kensington Hook Shelf. Recommended.

A Slice Of Shelf Excellence

Wedge shapes are part of the natural world. We come in contact with them each and every day. Imagine your life without them – no pizza slices, no pie.

A wedge shape is not only an integral part of the world’s geometry, it is a delightful way to bring a shelving option to a corner that lacks pizzazz. A wedge shape is a great way to maximize empty space, a space exactly like a corner. And it’s the wedge shape that fits the corner perfectly, as if the wedge was made specifically for the corner. Wedge, meet corner. Corner, meet the amazing Floating Corner Shelf.

If you enjoy a shelf constructed of delightful tempered glass and tough metal, you’ll enjoy this masterpiece. Here at ShelvesBlog, we find the “floating” design to be the most eye-catching of all wall shelves. They’re strong, yes. They hold anything a regular shelf can, sure. But by giving the impression of “floating”, they challenge your perceptions of gravity. It’s an illusion, of course. This Floating Corner Shelf is a master of illusion.

If your home has the zest of modern décor, and you’re in the market for shelves, I would say it is an absolute must to consider the Floating Corner Shelf. Not only is it terrific looking, not only glass, not only “floating”, but it’s a wedge. Wedge shapes are part of the natural world. Make this Floating Corner Shelf part of your world. Recommended.

Wall Decoration Shelves. Squared.

Sometimes you need shelves for organization, and sometimes you just need to show off terrific items like flowers and picture frames. When it comes time to forgo roomy shelf space for a design that demands attention and acts a de facto display case, albeit one that hangs on the wall without a glass door, the perfect choice is this delightful Collection Box from STACKS AND STACKS.

Sold in a handy set of 3 varying sizes, these Boxes are Shelves, and visa versa. But here’s a hint (shh, don’t tell) – they actually CAN be used for storage and organization! I know! Many times I find it frustrating that décor and “style” have to intrude on good old-fashioned functionality. If I had my way, modern and tradition design would eschew the need for “glitter” as I call it: little flourishes that many find make a home or office “cozy”. I prefer pure the cold mathematics of shelf organization; optimizing anti-clutter expenditure and maximizing the available raw space of a shelf. But this is my opinion only. There is certainly room for both schools of thought, and the Collection Box is nothing if not versatile.

Not only do the Boxes come in 3 sizes, but they also feature a gamut of color choices. Pick from Natural, White, Dark Cherry, Black, Chocolate, Honey, and Mahogany if you, like many others, enjoy harmonizing your home or office’s look and color scheme.

I know my hard-edged opinions on shelf organization would classify me as “straight-laced”, “cold”, or even “square” — but these Collection Boxes prove that squares can be cool, too.

Did Elves Build These Shelves?

Shelves For The Time You Won

They say winning isn’t everything. And that is true, but only to a point. Because sometimes you just win – and sometimes you win a trophy. (Losers tend not to win trophies, not only because contests seldom hand out trophies to losers, but because losers wouldn’t have the drive to win even if they won for losing.)

If you have any proficiency at winning, you’ve certainly racked up a few of these personal treasures in your day. Large, small, gold-plated or plastic, it really doesn’t matter – because you won. And there is nothing more uplifting than seeing the fruits of your victory up on a shelf. It’s almost as good as the actual moment you won, except you have the luxury to do it anytime you wish, without any effort.

Ah, the trophy shelf. It’s a time-honored tradition for winners both young and old. Any room of the home is perfect for a trophy shelf. Some winners actually have trophy ROOMS, with multiple shelves.

Are you a winner? Starting a new trophy shelf of your own? Might I suggest these simple, yet durable units from the fine folks at STACKS AND STACKS?

Look at them: stylish, sturdy, and sports themed! You’d be hard pressed to find a cooler lot of trophy-ready wall shelves, and these wall shelves have a lot of cool! Click on over and take a look at basketball, baseball, or soccer! (Sorry, football.)

You’ll be glad to have a place for your new trophy. (And if they gave out trophies for shelves, these shelves would win.)
