January 10th, 2012 — Do It Yourshelf: Shelves for You, Magazine Shelves, Metal Shelves, Wall Shelves, modern shelves
Shelves are great; every home and office needs them, and without the wonderful properties of shelves, I would not be here writing on this blog for you today. But alas, shelves cannot carry the entire burden when it comes to neat, organized and efficient home storage. Sometimes all a shelf really needs to meet its maximum potential is an assistant to pull some storage weight.

Metal Magazine Files
One great way to quickly and easily organize the shelves in your home or office is by using magazine files to sort paperwork in a neat and vertical fashion. The metal magazine file is the perfect example of using additional accessories to really put the finishing touch on your shelf organization.
This modern metal shelf organizer has an attractive, eye-catching contemporary design. The shelf features a pattern of circular punch outs in its sturdy metal frame, which add visual interest while promoting the ability to find what you are looking for. I like to put my old copies of The Economist inside the files (I purchased quite a few of these files, they are so useful!) so I have a veritable library of world events, all within reach on my shelves.
Of course, this magazine file is not only useful when paired with a shelf. This storage organizer can also be used on a desktop. It makes an excellent “inbox / outbox” and allows for a more organized, clutter free desk space.
One more trick for the true “handy-persons” out there on the interwebs: Try hanging these files directly onto the wall.
1.) Evenly place two screws into the wall, separated by a few inches. Be sure to leave enough clearance for the metal panels
2.) Place each screw within the circular cut outs, and slide the file down onto the screws. The metal panels should fit snugly between the screw head and the wall.
3.) Tighten the screws into place; if desired, place two screws at the base of the file
4.) There you have it, a wall mounted magazine file!

I live in a tiny little bungalow in the heart of the city, and that obviously provides me with very little garage space when I need to get to my handy work. Our garage is miniscule to say the least, with just barely enough room to fit our single car in, plus a little bit of extra room for working on home projects. I am a dedicated “do it yourself-er”, so I really wanted to find a way to be able to do some tinkering in my garage. After all, is that not what drives a man to buy a house in the first place? The ability to tinker to his heart’s content?

Aluminum Wall Mounted Folding Shelves
The solution to my desire for tinkering was right in front of my eyes the entire time, right there on my computer screen. Stacks and Stacks had what I consider to be the ultimate in space saving work shelving: the aluminum wall-mounted folding shelf. The shelf is super lightweight because of its aluminum construction, weighing in at a meager five pounds. On the flip side, it is able to hold an astonishing 75 pounds of weight! The surface area of the shelf when folded out is approximately 45.5″W x 20.25″D. Now I have enough space to fix remote controls, garbage disposals, and more, plus I have room to get started on my birdhouse building hobby that I have always wanted to get off the ground!
When I am done using this metal wall shelf, I simply fold it down. This unique folding ability allows for enough space to get into my car and pull it out of the garage. When folded down the shelf only sticks out about five inches, leaving plenty of room to move around in the garage. You can find this shelf and others like it over at StacksandStacks.com.

4 foot floating wood wall shelf
Last weekend I took the family out to get some portraits taken. We drove all the way out to the scenic and beautiful Fargo, ND to capture my family’s love for the snow and cold weather. The photo shoot was a smashing success, and we came away with loads of great pictures to share with our friends, and of course, display prominently in our home.
A few days passed and all the while I pondered just where I would want to show off our new portraits. The living room was an obvious first choice, as it was the place our guests were most likely to encounter our gorgeous depictions. Well it turns out I was in luck, because while I was perusing my favorite online store, Stacks and Stacks, I came across the perfect solution.
The 4 foot floating wood wall shelf is the perfect display shelf for my fabulous Fargo family portraits. This sturdy floating shelf is able to support all of the family portraits (including the one in which I received a snowball to the face) and is completely seamless! The shelves not only display the professional images of my family, but add some modern style to my living room as well!
I was worried that I would have a hard time installing a floating shelf into my home, but it turns out that it is a breeze to install this shelf! All I needed was a Phillips head screwdriver to complete the install. I simply screwed in the mounting brackets and then just slid the shelf right into place!
The shelf can hold up to 30 pounds of weight, and at four feet across, has plenty of room to show off my amazing family frolicking in the snowy paradise that is Fargo. As I said before you can find the floating wall shelf and a whole bunch more like it at StacksandStacks.com

The end of the year is the best time to sit back and ruminate on past achievements, as well as make plans and resolutions for the coming year. This time I vowed to organize and beautify my home. Recently a friend of mine, a distinguished family therapist and a Feng Shui enthusiast, explained to me the correlation between one’s living space and one’s state of mind. As it turns out, your home is not only a reflection of your inner self, but also a big influence on such. It got me thinking that all the little things I’ve been neglecting throughout the years form a really big picture. For example, I have lots of stylish photo frames, elegant vases and other lovely home accents, which until recently were unnecessarily tucked away in my garage; meanwhile my home looked like an austere, transient space, which inevitably transferred onto my outlook on self and life in general. I started my design quest by bringing all the pretty things out of hiding. Vases found their home on top of the bookcase; picture frames settled on the dresser and the console table. I still had a few wonderful candleholders, a couple of exquisite sea shells from my last trip to the islands, and some marvelous figurines - all of which had no place to go. Much of my wall space was already occupied by newly hung prints and paintings, so I needed a clever and compact shelving solution. I found just what I was looking for in the wall mount corner shelves. I need three wooden shelves in Walnut to match my living room furniture; they’ll serve as perfect displays for a Nautilus shell, a pair of jade candlesticks and a miniature Toltec warrior statue. Two glass shelves will accommodate a few votives, a reed diffuser and a perfume collection in my bathroom. Seeing all those treasures finally out and in the open is sure to fill my heart with warmth and give me a true sense of home. I still have a long way to go in creating a picture-perfect haven, but I’m off to a good start.
November 22nd, 2011 — Bathroom Shelves, Cable Shelves, Glass Shelves, THE Shelf
Decorating with a wall mounted glass wall shelf if a great way to create storage or display space without compromising on style. The glass design creates an uncluttered, floating look. This makes it a great addition to a smaller space like a bathroom where you need streamlined storage. Though featuring a modern design, it’s easy to pair sleek glass with more traditional décor.

Rectangular Glass Shelf Kit
Looking for extra storage space for toiletries or bath towels? Try a shelf like the Rectangular Glass Shelf Kit – Wall Mounted that gives you easy access to everyday essentials. By placing it up high on the wall inside the shower opposite the shower head you can store shampoo or towels in a very convenient place where everything can stay dry. Simply roll up some fresh towels and stack them on top so they’re ready to grab after your next shower!
Creating interesting and easy to use storage in the kitchen can be a challenge. Cabinets can limit wall space and free areas often require shallow shelving that doesn’t get in the way. A narrow glass shelf can be placed beneath a cabinet or on an empty wall to store cooking tools or spices. Use it to display your collection of coffee mugs in an easy to reach place.
Buy multiple rectangular glass shelf kits and stack them one on top of another to create all the custom storage you need. Try arranging them at different levels in a staggered pattern to create a focal point. Using wall shelves to display framed photos or a collection of vases is a versatile option. Since you don’t need to a hook in the wall it’s easy to change the arrangement. Create a custom arrangement large enough to fill a living room wall or compact enough to provide storage in an entryway. Find them at Stacks and Stacks!

Here’s a fun suggestion for everyone today, a fun new way to display! Have you ever considered wall shelves to show off your collection of bean pals, Smurfs, or antique bottles? Whatever your collection is, I have a perfect way to show them off!
As for me, I love ceramic miniatures. I collect them at swap meets, estate sales, and even ebay. You can be sure I’ve amassed a million wonderful hand-crafted ceramic miniature pieces. Ducks, cars, sheep, everything you can imagine! I even have an Eiffel Tower!
Well, I already have a well-stocked and meticulously lit display cabinet for my treasures, but I thought “wouldn’t it be neat to display them all over the house?”, if that was at all possible. It turns out, with the assistance of some terrific glass clip shelves, I could display my collection in every room of the house! The kitchen, bedrooms, atrium, great room, and even the hallways!

Glass Clip Shelves
The glass clip shelves were a godsend, honestly. They are so durable and easy to install. I could do it myself, and I’m really not good at building things. Once they’re up on your walls, you’ll be amazed. They look so good, with frosted chrome connectors and crisp, clear glass. Well, I wasted no time, carefully placed my favorite ceramic miniature pieces atop those glass shelves, and viola: my collection is on view in every room.
These shelves don’t need to be used just for display, now that I think about it. They can be used for picture frames, flowers, even bath towels! Really, I guess only the limits of your imagination can limit the uses for these great glass wall shelves.
I purchased terrific glass wall shelves at Stacks and Stacks, placed my favorite collection proudly upon them, and improved the look of my home.
You can too.

Classic 16 x 16 Floating Corner Shelf by Creative Connectors
Review By Joel Batchler
Have you ever wanted to spice up the boring corner spaces in your home? You know what I mean: boring, boring areas of space in almost every room in your house, areas that could use a little something “extra”?
Well, I think I found a perfect solution. Everyone should consider adding a corner shelf or two to their homes! I selected a classic 16 x 16 floating corner shelf, and it’s worked wonders to add visual flair and intrigue to my usually boring walls. It actually worked so well, I decided to use them in every corner of the house. But I’m getting ahead of myself.
First thing’s first! The classic 16 x 16 floating corner shelf, which I purchased online at a reasonable price, is constructed of melamine, which is just great. It looks like wood, but it’s just so much better. Melamine is sturdier, easier to clean, and it’s available in so many different colors, perfect for all the different colors of walls in my home!
Next, installation! It’s just so easy. When I installed my shelves, it was a real breeze. Melamine shelves are terrific to screw into drywall or studs. (Be careful, though! I found out that while they hold up to 80 pounds, these shelves can’t be drilled to cement walls! Sorry basement!)
Best of all, you are free to place anything you want on these shelves, from picture frames to candles to houseplants! The options are endless. You can theme a guest room with plastic fish, miniature anchors and other remembrances of the sea, or deck out your child’s room with the latest video game or sports things.
Well there you have it! I added a classic 16 x 16 floating corner shelf to my home and really spiced it up.
You can too. Get yours at Stacks and Stacks!

I read an article today that chilled me to the bone. It froze me with fear. It covered me with a frost of dread. It turns out all of man’s innovations like chimney smoke, factories and gasoline are ruining the environment. All of these innovations are melting the polar ice caps. The actual ice that makes up the north and south poles. These ice shelves will then raise the ocean level, killing us all. After the water rises, and dry land becomes the most precious commodity on the planet, bands of thieving, dangerous nomads will sail the globe, attacking the survivors. It will be a living hell, an unbearable living nightmare, a nightmare in which the living envy the dead. We as humans will have effectively ruined the very place we were born, destroying our place in the universe forever. The good news is that until then we can still order shelves for the home, shelves not unlike these terrific deluxe 4-level floating wall shelf from Stacks And Stacks.

Forget all that doom and gloom — go ahead and make a bold statement! This amazing shelving unit is constructed of sturdy northern hardwoods, the very hardwoods that will disappear when seas rise. This display shelf offers simplistic design while providing a space-saving solution for collectible and photo display. It’s basically a nic nac shelf is that is attractive and functional at the same time, giving you the best of both worlds! Spaces in between the shelves are of differing sizes so you can display anything from small figurines to hardcover books in the same convenient area. And as long as you still have a home with walls, it can safely hold a total of 25 lbs. Best of all, you can order the unit in either Unfinished wood or these killer finishes: Natural, Walnut, White, Dark Cherry, Black, Chocolate, Honey and Mahogany! And until the end of days, it’ll make a great addition to your home or office! And so on.

Sometimes you need shelves for organization, and sometimes you just need to show off terrific items like flowers and picture frames. When it comes time to forgo roomy shelf space for a design that demands attention and acts a de facto display case, albeit one that hangs on the wall without a glass door, the perfect choice is this delightful Collection Box from STACKS AND STACKS.

Sold in a handy set of 3 varying sizes, these Boxes are Shelves, and visa versa. But here’s a hint (shh, don’t tell) – they actually CAN be used for storage and organization! I know! Many times I find it frustrating that décor and “style” have to intrude on good old-fashioned functionality. If I had my way, modern and tradition design would eschew the need for “glitter” as I call it: little flourishes that many find make a home or office “cozy”. I prefer pure the cold mathematics of shelf organization; optimizing anti-clutter expenditure and maximizing the available raw space of a shelf. But this is my opinion only. There is certainly room for both schools of thought, and the Collection Box is nothing if not versatile.
Not only do the Boxes come in 3 sizes, but they also feature a gamut of color choices. Pick from Natural, White, Dark Cherry, Black, Chocolate, Honey, and Mahogany if you, like many others, enjoy harmonizing your home or office’s look and color scheme.
I know my hard-edged opinions on shelf organization would classify me as “straight-laced”, “cold”, or even “square” — but these Collection Boxes prove that squares can be cool, too.
